I must admit that I wasn't looking forward to Phury's story because I hadn't really warmed to him in J R Wards other books (which I love). Having said that after reading it I suppose I did like Phury more. The book also introduces some new characters if you don't access J R Wards forum site and also gives the readers a few shocks. All in all I cried at the end and I can't wait for Rehvenges story next years, bring it on!

I wasn't expecting much from this installment, after the debacle that was Lover Unbound, and a review of Lover Enshrined which said that JR Ward was plainly trying to move away from underworld romance into urban fantasy. JR Ward was a great romance writer but is way out of her league in the urban fantasy genre. The BDB world is just not epic enough, the premise too tired and the characters smack of the ridiculous when taken out of the romance setting. It's a good thing I wasn't trying to read the book in braille because I wasn't feeling it at all. I might read the next book out of nostalgia but I doubt it. For new readers of the series, stop at Lover Awakened.

I brought this book the minute it came out-as i lover the Botherhood series and J.R Ward's writing. But for me, i felt this book acted as a "filler" in the series, instead of one story.
Having said that, i enjoyed how Ward brought the future of the Botherhood into focus with John, Blay and Qhuinn. i was pleased to read about Bella and Z's pregnancy-eager for it to have a happy ending as they are my favourite couple! But, as to Phury and Corima (the love story entwined in the book) i felt a little cheated at how they weren't the main focus of the story. they didn't spend as much time together, learning their secrets or falling in love as Z and Bella did, or V and Jane did. (Lover Unbound and Lover Awakened are my favourites out of the series so far)
However-it is a good additon to the series and i enjoyed reading it! it was good to catch up with all the characters and interesting to see how Ward etablished Rhev and John, Blay and Qhuinn into the series!
If you're a Botherhood fan then definately buy this book! not just for Phury's story but for seeing what all the Bother's are doing at the moment.
I'm looking forward to the next one! keep them coming!

By Innah Calimbahin,
Ms. Ward's latest work had me reading non-stop. The plot was incredible and captivated me. Her use of language was incredible, she really delivered as in her previous works.
The novel starts out with The Omega's search for his son. He also appointed another fore-lesser to do the job Mr. D. I guess the male who was to be his son isn't a surprise because this guy's been causing a lot of trouble and really gets on my nerves.
Due to the arrival of the Omega's son, the lessers are more powerful because he was able to use his knowledge of the brotherhood to fight them. The Lessening Society are now more powerful because of him. They also now have a headquarters.
We also get an insight on the voice in Phury's head; he refers to it as the "Wizard". This voice berates him and taunts him for his actions making him think that they are mistakes, It is also the reason for Phury's voice of the blunts. He thinks that if he smoked enough of them, the voice would be gone but it doesn't. What helps him though, is the gentle Cormia.
Although their romance wasn't elaborated much, you could see in those luttle moments that they interacted that they belong together. Cormia saved Phury just like he saves everyone. They were both used to giving up their needs for the sake of others around them. In the end, they both learnt that they should do things for themselves sometimes.
What had me in tears was Thor's return. I knew he was the vampore feeding on deer but his return was legendary. The moment he called John Matthew and opened his arms had me in tears. It was more for John Matthew than Thor though, regaining his family after being alone for so long.
I also liked the change in the laws. The SV finally loosened up and I guess that's good. She changed in a good way. I used to hate her but now, I'm warming up to her change of attitude.
There was also more insight on the sympaths' Rhev and Xhex. I love the romance between Xhex and JM.. Can't wait for their book! There is also an unexpected romance in this book. But I'm not gonna tell!
To sum it up, the book was great! Though there was a lot going on, it's worth it. I highly recommend it!

I felt really cheated by this book. The romance could probably have been all covered in one chapter such was it's rarity. This book was much darker than the previous books. This unwelcome (for me) trend manifested in V's story "Lover Unbound" which I barely finished reading. In fact put it down several times and the implausible ending made me wish I had stuck to my instincts and gave it up. But this is the Black Dagger Brotherhood a series of novels I used to love! Had always pre-ordered the next book as soon as it was possible and waited impatiently for it's delivery. So loved Wrath and Beth's story and each book thereafter until V's as I have said. Had hoped that this was just a blip but see now that the romance has been sacrificed for intrigue and plot. Can't they all co-exist in the same book? Like other reviewers I found the BDB's treatment of Phury in his hour of greatest need to be unbelievable. These are guys who watch each other's backs who put their lives on the line for each other then when one goes down the road of addiction there is no help offered...pleez!
Also another plot development I found unbelievable was the lack of support for John in his turmoil from Mary, Rhage's shellan, who brought him to the care of the Brotherhood in the first place. She had been his confidante and unofficial counsellor and generally looked out for him. Now when he has gone through the change and lost his adopted family- all around the same time- Mary is nowhere to be seen. They live in the same house for godsakes...there is not even a mention of her in this book. She protected him like a tigress before now she doesn't come near him..hello am I the only one who thinks this strange? Also am I missing something re Z's and Bella's baby wasn't this baby mentioned at the end of "Lover Revealed" I distinctly remember Z having both names on his back. Now we are expected to worry along with the characters about the safe delivery of a child we know has been born and that she and her mother are fine, having survived the birth without any problems. Found this strange made me wonder if I had imagined the previous mention of this infant so I checked just to be sure. This review sounds so negative it is a shame, I really am a massive fan of Ms Ward and this series I just feel that in this book I did not get what I signed up for. I did finish this book and did enjoy the development of the young warriors and was able to see the BDB traits appearing in their characters. They do seem much more emotional than the first generation warriors or maybe it is just that they are young and wear their hearts on their sleeves.
Not sure where the BDB goes from here, there are so many plot possibilties from this book, but I think romance will be in short supply if this book is anything to go by. Not one with which to start the series.
